Grandma’s summer
Lady’s Summer: Golden Autumn is a long period of warm and dry weather that occurs in mid-autumn in Europe and North America. This period is associated with a stable anticyclone, which causes an influx of warm air masses. Another reason for the temperature increase in autumn is that the leaves on the trees wither and turn yellow, which releases a significant amount of heat, which rises up and increases the air temperature.
Midsummer comes after a significant cooling, and at this time you can observe the re-blooming of some plants that respond to the increase in temperature.
Officially, the term “women’s summer” does not exist; experts call the warm and dry days of autumn simply “the period of warm and dry weather”.
People call the period of warming after a drop in temperature a midsummer summer. A characteristic feature of ladybug summer is the web flying in the air. Which is released by spiders of various families. According to one version, the name “lady’s summer” comes from the flying web (“summer”, “summer”) and the mythological Baba (the time of year when the Pleiades, popularly called Babas, are visible in the constellation of Veles). According to ancient beliefs, this time divides the year into two parts: when the Babas appear in spring, summer begins, and in autumn, winter begins.
The duration of the warm days of midsummer can vary, as can its onset. Usually, this period lasts one or two weeks.
A woman’s summer comes three times
Since ancient times, this season has been divided into young and old midsummer summer. It was believed that the young lady’s summer began on August 28 and lasted until September 11, while the old one came in the second half of September, sometimes in early October.
There is also a third female summer, which usually returns unexpectedly in the second half of November. After that, winter begins to dominate, the first frosts and snow appear.
However, not all countries call this period “women’s summer”. For example,
- in Germany it is called “old lady’s summer”,
- in Serbia – “Michael summer”, in Macedonia and Bulgaria – “Gypsy summer”,
- in Italy – “summer of St. Martin”,
- in Portugal – “summer of St. Martin” or “Veranik” (Letochko),
- in the Netherlands – “later”
- in North America – “Indian summer”,
- in France – “summer of St. Denis”, a
- in Spain – “summer of St. Miguel” (if it came in August-September). And “summer of St. Martin” (if it came in October-November). As well as “summer of St. Juan Baptista” or “summer of St. Juan “.
